Hi,

We have been unable to get the Analysis Services to work on a fresh install
of Project Server 2007 and SQL 20008 on a single box, we get the following
error:

Analysis Services session failed with the following error: Failed to connect
to the Analysis Services server rmtp-project01. Error: Cannot connect to
Analysis Services version '10.0.1600.22'.

This is what we have done:
1. Re-fresh the server OS.
2. Enable IIS services 6.0 then Install MS .NET Framework 3.0
3. Install the WindowsServer2003-KB942288-V4-x64.exe (Windows Installer for
SQL2008).
4. Install MS .NET Framework 3.5
5. Install SQL 2008, Upgrade Advisor, Native Client, Policies, Browser,
Setup Support, Books online,
6. Install SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLEDB Provider
7. Install SQL Server 2005 Backward compatibility
8. Install SQL Server

Native Client
9. Install SQL Server Management Object Collection
10. Install SQL Server Setup Support Files
11. Install SQL Server VSS Writer
12. Install Office Server/Project Server 2007
13. Install Sharepoint SP1 updates - kb936988
14. Office Server SP1 updates - kb936984
15. Infrastructure update for MSOffice Servers - kb951297
16. Configure OLAP (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466.aspx)
17. Install MS SQL 2005 SP3.

Can anyone explain what we need to do to get it running? It would be a nice
Christmas present.

Many Thanks

Hi Christophe,

Thanks for your help.

Hi Christophe,

We have already fully installed 2005 SP3 and we see no difference when we

Hi Christophe,

In looking through the Implementing and Administering PS2007 book we noticed
that we should expect to see an MSOLAP group but we don't, so we are unable
to add our admin user to the group. I think this may be our problem.

How should we add the OLAP group?

Thanks again

Please ignore that last post, according to the technet article
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466.aspx
) it is not relevant to SQL2008 installs.

Essentially we have fully installed SQL Server 2008 including Feature Pack
then applied the SQL2005 components with SP3 following the technet article
exactly, taking the SQL2008 option

Some more pointers (ref technet article):
"Edit the Analysis Services DSO configuration" - we do not see an "AS2008"
entry in the msmdsrv.ini file

"Determine SQL Server Analysis Services named Instance port number" - we do
not see a populated <Instances> entry in in the Msmdredir.ini file

Can anyone offer any advice of what we should try?

Thanks

Fixed. We had DSO\LocksDirectory and DSO\RemoteLocksDirectory file paths in
the properties of AS, as well as native SQL client. Blanking those two
fields out forced the cube build to use the native SQL client connection
which worked successfully.

Check this blog post I did:

basically you need the Feature Pack SP3 for SQL 2005

Not sure why this page will not let me paste... ,but here goes... Delete the SID account and add your SSP account back in. Then stop and restart Analysis Services... Worked in my situation. I have no understanding as to why the account appeared as a SID in AS, but it did... Also, cube building was working fine prior to the OS update reboot.... Enjoy!

Thanks

Mike

Fixed.
Fixed. We had DSO\LocksDirectory and DSO\RemoteLocksDirectory file paths in
the properties of AS, as well as native SQL client. Blanking those two
fields out forced the cube build to use the native SQL client connection
which worked successfully

SSAS for Project Cube Building Errors
Mike,

I am having a similar problem.
Please send me the document that helped you solve your problem. (e-mail address removed)

Fixed the errors...
Basically, the SSP account was no longer an admin of Analysis Services (AS) following a OS patching cycle reboot. The SPP account in AS appeared as a SID. Deleted the SID account and re-added the SSP account, restarted AS and all was good.

Hope this helps...

I was getting the following errors:

Fix continued
Not sure why this page will not let me paste... ,but here goes... Delete the SID account and add your SSP account back in. Then stop and restart Analysis Services... Worked in my situation. I have no understanding as to why the account appeared as a SID in AS, but it did... Also, cube building was working fine prior to the OS update reboot.... Enjoy!

Hello,
I'm enounter a similar problem and need your help.
Would you so kind to send me the solution for this issue, please.
Thank you.
Hi,

We have been unable to get the Analysis Services to work on a fresh install
of Project Server 2007 and SQL 20008 on a single box, we get the following
error:

Analysis Services session failed with the following error: Failed to connect
to the Analysis Services server rmtp-project01. Error: Cannot connect to
Analysis Services version '10.0.1600.22'.

This is what we have done:
1. Re-fresh the server OS.
2. Enable IIS services 6.0 then Install MS .NET Framework 3.0
3. Install the WindowsServer2003-KB942288-V4-x64.exe (Windows Installer for
SQL2008).
4. Install MS .NET Framework 3.5
5. Install SQL 2008, Upgrade Advisor, Native Client, Policies, Browser,
Setup Support, Books online,
6. Install SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLEDB Provider
7. Install SQL Server 2005 Backward compatibility
8. Install SQL Server

Native Client
9. Install SQL Server Management Object Collection
10. Install SQL Server Setup Support Files
11. Install SQL Server VSS Writer
12. Install Office Server/Project Server 2007
13. Install Sharepoint SP1 updates - kb936988
14. Office Server SP1 updates - kb936984
15. Infrastructure update for MSOffice Servers - kb951297
16. Configure OLAP (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466.aspx)
17. Install MS SQL 2005 SP3.

Can anyone explain what we need to do to get it running? It would be a nice
Christmas present.

Many Thanks

Mike

Hi Christophe,

Does this help isolate what we still need to do to get it working?

Many Thanks

Connectivity errors are typically due to the wrong version of the components

Again the SQL 2005 SP3 feature pack should address this issue, also read

Hi Christophe,

We have already fully installed 2005 SP3 and we see no difference when we
run cube build.
We have double checked the SSP admin account and rights and all looks
correct following
these instructions http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466.aspx

We are a loss for what to try next as we have followed instructions to the
letter.

The only thing we have found is that we noticed from your blog article that
you recommend installing Sharepoint server before SQL2008

http://blogs.msdn.com/chrisfie/arch...e-with-sql-server-2008-analysis-services.aspx

We followed the Technet instructions and installed SQL2008 and then
installed Project Server. Could this be significant?

Many Thanks

Mike
