Error closes word

Dear all

When I open a previously saved document and try to edit it, word generates
an error and exits the entire program. Any ideas on where to look for the
problem

Hi, jee22. If this problem occurs with only one particular document, then that document may have become corrupt. If this problem occurs with many documents, then the template upon which those documents are based may have become corrupt. See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/CorruptDoc.htm.
