Error during initial connection to Exchange via Outlook 2003

I am receiving the following error during intial Outlook
2003 setup:

Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The Microsoft
Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there
are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer is down for maintenance.


The message contradicts reality, because in order to get
this message I had to authenticate with the same box
using a valid password. Then this message appears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....
