Error "Excel Still Open" in FrontPage

[DESPERATE IN MS]

I have a shared Excel spreadsheet with several worksheets containing macros.
We I link to the file on a shared drive I am able to open the Excel
spreadsheet but when I try it again I get a message say that the spreadsheet
is "open" (which it is not) or an error that the "page can not be displayed".

I know my link is correct? Any ideas?

Excel (and it's workbooks) is a single user app
Close the workbook and try opening it just in with the FP link
