Error importing or linking an excel spreadsheet

I'm using Access 2000 on a Win2000 machine. Just a straight, single-file database (.mdb). Recently, I've started getting the following error message: "The ADP file is not in the correct format for a Microsoft Access project".

Does anyone have any clues on this?
