error improting jpg file into word from Novell Drive in word 2003

I have my first user on word 2003 and they import pictures (jpg) into word documents on a daily basis. They cannot import jpg files into word now. I open word, go to Insert -> Picture -> from file and choose the file. I get the "convert file from" and when I choose "Jpeg file interchange format" it give me the "an error occurred while importing this file" error. I check to see if the "Confirm conversion at open" was on and it happens whether it is on or off. I also tried opening and saving the file with a 3rd party picture viewer and get the same thing. The files reside on a Novell drive. However, I can import into both 2000 and xp using a gateway client and novell client without a single issue. I want to blame novell but if it works in all versions of office execpt 2003, I don't see how Novell could be the issue. If the files are moved local or to a windows 2000 server share they work fine.

Try moving the Graphic file to another directory or Workstation.

You should not be getting the conversion message when you use Insert |
Picture. Are you sure you're not choosing Insert | File?
