Error in opening new document

When I try to open a new document, by using either the new icon or File/New, I get a deleted document that comes up instead of a blank document. Is there a setting that has gotten changed or is it corrupted. I have tried uninstall/reinstall with no difference.

You've accidentally saved a file over normal.dot. Take a look here:

Thanks it worked like a charm and finally Edgar Allan Poe (Kidlets school paper) is gone from my word docs.
