Error in registry for extension "Exchange Extensions"

Dan

Hi Guys

When I try and load Outlook 2003 on a users machine I get
the above error message which appears 4 times then let
you in to Outlook.

I have tried to repair office but it fails plus I cannot
uninstall office via the cd or add remove programs or
from the detect and repair option in help. i get an IO
error.

Does anyone have any ideas how i should fix this?

Cheers

Two thoughts...

1) delete the file named extend.dat while outlook and all e-mail enabled
apps are closed. start outlook and see if you get the error. if you still
do, proceed to "2"

2) launch regedit and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions. One of
the keys under here is mucked up. Since you mention "Exchange Extensions",
I would think that is the value that is problematic. With Outlook closed,
export this section of the registry and then delete the Exchange Extensions
value + do step one above. Start Outlook, if no error message, go to Tools
| Options | Other | Advanced Options | Addin manager and add Exchange
Extensions back into the list.

Hi

Thanks should have said but already tried both of those.
The reg workaround looses the error message but stil
cannot uninstall office?

Any thoughts on that.

I think you would need to fix the i/o error [e.g. could be a bad cdrom
drive] or figure out a way to run setup from an alternate location (e.g.
share a cdrom from another computer or copy the contents of the cd to a new
folder on a local/lan drive).
