Error in the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

When I try to open a .doc file attached to an e-mail I get an error message
that Office 11/WINWORD.exe is causing a runtime error in the Visual C++
Runtime Library and I can't open the document or the recovered version that I
also see. This does not happen when I try to open the .doc attachment in
another computer.

I have Word Office Professional 2003.

So I want to know how I can open these .doc attachments without getting the
runtime error. Thank you.
