Error inserting jpg into visio 2002

Generally, I can insert a jpg file using insert picture. However, on
occasion, I receive a variety of error messages, or there is a box with a big
x inserted. If I try to format picture, the actual picture shows up in the
preview box, but does not show up on the screen or print. I thought it was a
problem with file size, but i can insert other jpg of similar size without a
problem.

what I really need to do is insert a pdf into visio, but this doesn't work
either, so I export the pdf to jpg to insert it. If there is a better way
around this, please advise.

Thanks.

1. Are these files on a local or network drive?
2. What about other image formats, jpg isn't too good for anything
except photographs, try saving your PDF as a PNG format instead and
see what that does. Another thing to bear in mind is the JPEG files
are not just one file format, there are several types some of which
are not very well supported, depending on what program generates the
images it might be worth trying to load them into your graphics editor
(of whatever flavour), saving the file and then load it into Visio.

To put a PDF in a Visio file you should be using the menu Insert ->
Object but you'll only see the first page. It does work though.
