error installing office 12 server beta

B

BrianD

I get this error when running the SharePoint Products and Technologies
Configuration Wizard at the end of the Office 12 Server install.

02/08/2006 09:36:50 1 ERR An exception of type
Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException
was thrown. Additional exception information: Failed to start the SQL Server
instance Sharepoint on server ######. Repair this product by selecting it
from the Add/Remove Programs menu.

I looked at add/remove and don't see SharePoint, what am I trying to
Repair?? I also looked at what instances are in SQL, and there is no
"Sharepoint" instance on this SQL server.

Any help would be appreciated!!

If you are an authorized Office beta tester, then you need to
post your inquiry in the designated Office beta newsgroup.

Yes I'm authorized. Looking over the documentation that was sent with the
discs, I don't see the "designated Office beta newsgroup".

What/where is it??

Did you receive an email invitation to the Beta? If yes, then the details
of how to access the beta newsgroups is included in the email. If you did
not receive one, then you are not an official Microsoft beta tester, but a
beta user who received the software from a PR firm perhaps or a third party.

After furious head scratching, BrianD asked:

| I looked at the list of all programs at the site:

|
| There is no office 12 listed.

No we didn't get an email.

We are a MS Certified Partner firm. We have MSDN Universal for our
development / IT departments.

Our CIO went to the "MS CIO Summit", and was given these materials. They
are directly from MS's hands.

There are these DVDs:
Office 12 Pro
Office 12 Server
Office 12 File Format Converters
Groove Databridge
Groove Management Server
Groove

There also came hard copies of information sheets, titled "MS Office 12
Products, Beta 1 build". On these, we have our hardware recommendations,
software prereq's, and installation Keys.

There is no mention of a newsgroup for support, support email address, etc.

The DVDs were obviously published by MS, they are not some hack job copy.
They have their logo, copyright, "all rights reserved", and "Confidential"
stamped on them.

Bottom line:
- we typically get Beta's, i recently wrapped up Visual Server 2005 R2 Beta
- we are a MCP
- we have MSDN Universal
- we got this straight from MS's hands

If that still makes us some kind of red-haired, step-child, unofficial beta
testers that don't deserve to know HOW to access the newsgroup that exists
for this product, that's quite disappointing.
It'd be better to hear there wasn't any newsgroup for Office 12 beta, than
to be told there is one but you're not allowed in there.

There were those given the beta as a preview and those who were
invited to be beta testers.

The fact that you have a preview of the beta doesn't makes you a
red-haired step-child ;-) you have is more than most folks have at
this point.

If you are a certified partner then you may want to ask about
submitting bugs/asking Office 12 related questions in the direct
access newsgroups. They may have an answer for you.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Hi Brian,

The betas you receive through the MSDN subscription are usually later phase ones. In this case, you may want to ask your CIO to get
in touch with the CIO Summit contact to see what support arrangements have been made for that specific distribution, or if it was
distributed just as a 'preview' (as is). As you mentioned, stamped confidential on the CDs I'd also suspect, as a MS Partner firm,
that it would be covered by a MS Partner Non-disclosure agreement as well.
