Error making a secure connection -- Help with root cert

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I am receiving the following error on all of our company machines after replacing the self signed root certificate

"Unable to establish a secure connection to mail.mycompany.com (6)"

Our self signed root cert expired so I created a new one and installed it on all machines and gave it trust in keychain access. My mac mail systems accept it fine, my PCs accept it fine and my blackberries and iphones are fine. It is only entourage giving me an error.

Is there some special element in the cert that entourage is looking for or a restriction to the cert properties or settings that I am missing?

Unfortunately I cannot disclose any hostnames or IPs for security reasons.
We are using kerio server with POP, and IMAP.

Have you also removed the old server certificate (not the root
certificate) from your keychain? Do you see the new one there?
