error message 1402

Please can someone tell me why everytime I try to load
office (in particular Word), this error message comes up:
Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\office\9.0\word.

I have tried removing office and reinstalling it but it
won't allow me to do that. I'm not very clued up with
this sort of thing!!
