error message : I can't close my PERSONAL.XLS file

Roger

I am using Excel 2002. I have a macro which sends a file to an email
address. I have it in the PERSONAL.XLS tool bar with it's own icon so when I
export a table from ACCESS to EXCEL the macro is there ready to use. When I
click on the icon I keep getting an error message saying that I can't open
another copy of PERSONAL.XLS and I need to either rename the file or close
the 1st copy of PERSONAL.XLS.

But as far as I can see PERSONAL.XLS is closed and hidden ! If I go into the
maco's code and run it from there I have no problems. Has anyone any idea
what my problem is and how to fix it ?

thanks ... Roger

The icon has a macro in a different workbook assigned to it.

I'm not sure where this icon is or how you made it, but if modified the a
toolbar, you can:

Tools|Customize (just to see that dialog)
rightclick on the icon
Choose Assign macro

and assign the macro in the currently open version of personal.xls.

(You may notice that the old assigned macro was pointed to a different workbook
in a different drive/folder.)

Personally, I don't like modifying the toolbar this way. It becomes a pain when
things like this happen.

Instead, I create the toolbar (and icon) when my workbook opens and delete the
toolbar when the workbook closes.

For additions to the worksheet menu bar, I really like the way John Walkenbach
does it in his menumaker workbook:

Here's how I do it when I want a toolbar:
http://www.contextures.com/xlToolbar02.html
(from Debra Dalgleish's site)

In xl2007, those toolbars and menu modifications will show up under the addins.

And if you use xl2007:

If you want to learn about modifying the ribbon, you can start at Ron de Bruin's
site:
http://www.rondebruin.nl/ribbon.htm
http://www.rondebruin.nl/qat.htm -- For macros for all workbooks (saved as an
addin)
