Error message on split DB

Lisa

Greetings! We have a split database, and periodically receive the
following error message..."Unrecognizable database format
[Location\name of database back end]" Is there any way to find out
what causes this problem, or how to prevent it? On this most recent
event, one of the users admitted to closing out the database by
clicking the X in the upper right corner, rather than "exit" on the
switchboard. She said she then tried to reopen the database, and was
unable to do so, because of the error message. Would her method of
closing the database have been the cause?

Thanks in advance!

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption
see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at

No, that would not cause corruptions.

This can be a bit misleading. Users can continue to work in the MDB
even though it's corrupted. You only know it's corrupted when someone
goes into it.

Thanks for the information, Tony! This last part of the reply makes
sense, as another user was still in the database working and she did
not find the corruption until the next morning.

Am researching the information you provided now!
