error message: "pure virtual function called"

When trying to open certain powerpoint presentations an error message appears with the following in the top border: hpbf 3020.drv

Inside the box is the message:"pure virtual function called," and an OK button. When I press OK another message appears: "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down," and then it closes. This doesn't happen with all programs. Does anyone know of a fix? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 97 but it hasn't solved the problem. Up until recently PowerPoint was working flawlessly!
