Error Message Source File contains Invalid Data

When I open a .mpp file using MS Project Pro 2007, the file pormpts for a
password. If I put on the password, the file opens fine. If I do not put in
the password and open as read only, I get an error the the source ile
contains invalid project data. Exceed the row limit of xxxxxx. The error
suggests to dlete rows or sub divide the project. TAfter clicking on the
error, the file does not open. One big problem, Remember, the file is opened
read only so if it did open, you could not do as the error suggests. Does
anyone know of a fix? Some users need read only.

Hello Brad,

There have been several reports in this newsgroup of password protected
files being damaged when using Project 2007. I don't believe there is a
fix at this point other than to recommend that you do not use passwords
on files you intend to use with Project 2007. If you have users who
need a read-only version perhaps printing to a PDF file would suffice.
If you do not have a PDF application, I'd suggest just sending along the
file without the password and just ask that the user not change the
file. (You still have a copy anyway).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

You're welcome Brad. I don't know if SP-1 has fixed this problem or
not, but until you have an opportunity to fully test SP-1, I would
still suggest staying away from passwords.
