Error Message upon importing outlook pst file

M

Mike

I receive and error message "access denied, you do not have permission
required to access the file."

I've tried to uncheck the box "read only" with no success.

How can I transfer this outlook backup file please:?

Thanks

you mean you can't uncheck the read only box, or you can uncheck it and it
still doesn't work?

I also have the same problem. In my case, I am trying to copy a laptop's (XP
SP2) email over to a desktop (also XP SP2). I exported the Mailbox of the
laptop user and copied the backup.pst file to a CD. Now, trying to import
the file into the Desktop's Personal Folders I get the same "do not have
permission to access D:\backup.pst". The users of both machines are
Administrator accounts.

If your situation is the same as mine, try copying the .pst file(s) to the
target machine's hard drive and change the read-only attribute on that copy.
I just tried it and it worked. See Knowledge Base article KB258468.

Copy the pst file off the cd and paste it onto your HDD. Do NOT paste it
over the one that is already there.

Then remove the read-only attribute (if it's still there) and open Outlook.
Go to File-open-Outlook Data file and navigate to where you copied it to.

For those of you who may encounter any type of error messages when restoring
a back up file of Outlook.pst, I recommend the following which have worked
for me.
Go to 'Start' menu and click on 'Search', when that opens, type in the file
and folders field, 'Scanpst.exe'. This is a utility program that repairs
errors with all Outlook related files and folders. Once the search has
located it, simply click on it and when it opens, click on the 'Browse'
button to search for the specific 'Outlook.pst' file. Once located simply
follow the prompts and it will repair any errors with the file so that you
can import it into your current Outlook personal folder.

Finally, if all still fails, then I suggest going to this site and
downloading an Outlook Repair Program which will do the job. See
http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/outlook.html

All the best!
