I have 2 access databases I created using access 97, I have recently
updated to
access 2007, Now when attempt to open those databases, I get an error
message that says,
"Your Microsoft Office Database contains a missing or broken reference to
the file pdf42.ocx ver 1.3

To ensure that your database or projects works properly, you must fix this
reference."

I click ok several times and a similar message appears referencing
PLUGIN.OCX VER 1.0

Click ok several times and then the database opens.

anyone know how to fix this, Im not a programmer or developer, just a small
business guy who uses these databases daily..

Any help greatly appreciated, its kind of annoying everytime I open the
database.
Thanks

pdf42.ocx is the Adobe ActiveX control for creating PDF files ... have you moved the database to a new machine, or have
you updated the machine where the database resides?

Not exactly sure what that one does, but you can __try__ removing the reference and see if that works. To do that, open
the database in Design view, then open the VBA editor (Alt + f11), then click Tools - References and see if any are
marked MISSING ... if they are, note the exact name, then uncheck the refs, close and reopen the ref dialog and find and
recheck those references.

If you moved the database to a new machine then you'd need to install the pdf42.ocx control ... IIRC, this is typically
installed when you install the full version of Adobe, so you'd need to do that.

..ocx is the file extension used for ActiveX control files.
Seems that you have missing references to some external ActiveX files or
Plugins that you had installed in A97...

I guess you will have to search your application for the ActiveX controls
that are causing the reference errors and replace them with a control
available in A2007.

Scott and Steve,
Thanks, Scott I followed your advice step by step, and that fixed it.

One note, when I reopened the box after I unchecked the reference that was
marked missing. It was no longer there. However the database seems to be
working fine, and no longer a error message on start up.

Thanks again
