Error Message when trying to open Word 2000

Hi John,

What is the message you encounter when starting Word using winword /a?
Is it the MSO9.DLL error or another error?

Also, take a look in Event Viewer to find more information on the
error message. This may be in the Control Panel or under
Administrative Tools in Windows ME.

I have not been able to find the "Event Viewer" I looked
in the control panel and in the programs menu I did not
see a file or program labled either event viewer or
adminstrative tools.

I have now tried removing the word addin from MSWorks
Suite and making the templates unavailable. But these
actions did not affect the problem. Now that my templates
are unavaiable they stayed marked unavaiable when I
restarted my computer and when I tried to launch word
these were not reset???

Thanks for your suggestion I keep learning more everyday.

I tried your suggestion I made the subdirectory "wizards
and templates" unavailable and then finished the operation
then I restarted the computer but I still get the same old
errer message. The subdirectories remain unavailable as
work will not start to regenerate them.

Your suggestion was very interesting I never knew anything
about being able to make the subdirectories unavaiable.

Thanks for your efforts.

Sincerely,

John B.

I get the same error message no matter how i try to start
word.

"Winword has caused and error in MSO9.DLL.
Winword will now close.

If you continue to experience problems, try restarting
your computer."

In w2kPro the event viewer is located in "Start->Control
panel->Administrative Tools"
This is a shortcut to where it really lives which is in the
"C:\Winnt\System32" subdirectory.
In Wxp "C:\Windows\System32"
Both os call it "eventvwr.exe"

I realize that you're running ME but I *assume* the idea will be the
same.

Maybe one of the logs (esp the "application" log will give you a hint).

John;
Have you installed a new printer driver lately?
I know Word gets awful "pernickety" (sp?) about printers sometimes.
In my "Googling" around the net I found a few references to MSO09.DLL
problems that were related to printers (please don't ask me why - I have
no idea!).
Most of these were "page fault" messages but, as it looks like you've
done everything else (short of pulling your hair out?), I thought it
may be worth a shot.
