Error Message

Hi

When I start up Outlook or Windows, I get an error message window come up on
screen:

Microsoft Word
The add-in template is not valid - (C:\....~$nereader6.sprint.dot)

I have deleted the only one mention of this in the registry and found
nothing relating to this when I do a search for files and folders.

What is it all about and what do I have to do to get rid of it.

Hi Chesjak,

The template is a Word Add-in related to Aabby FineReader Sprint v6.
The ~$ starting to the filename indicates it's a temp file where the first two characters of Fi have been replaced for temp file id.

Before starting Word use
Start=>Search
and recycle files found using this string
~$*.*;*.tmp

In Word check in Tools=>Templates and Addins and see if removing that add-in from the list helps.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I did as you said but still have the problem

Firstly when I did the search for the .tmp files as per your response, I
found nothing.

However when I opened Word up and looked at templates & addins, I did find
the two files in the box. Unfortunately, it will not allow me to delete/
remove them. The remove button is greyed out and un-operational.

When you say "recycle files found using this string" Do you mean delete
them? Not that this matters because as I said there were none.

Hi Chesjak,

The FineReader sprint version often comes with computers/scanners/all-in-one printers and is installed as part of the setup from the
CDs with the products. Check in the Word Startup folder to see if the Finereader6.sprint template is there. If so, move it out of
the folder.
To see the location of the Startup folder you can use
Tools=>Options=>File Locations
but you won't be able to delete files from that dialog box.


If it's not there, you may need to check the settings for that program or through Add/Remove Programs for disabling the Office
add-in that the program provides. (http://finereader.com/sprint/

Recycle would be sending the items to the recycle bin (in case you wanted to 'undo' the deletion) rather than deleting them from the
computer (shift+delete).
