Error Messages when Opening Certain Tables

Hello,

I am using Access 2003 and am experiencing a problem when trying to open
certain tables in my database. I've opened these tables before and have never
had any problems.

The first table is a linked table that just holds text fields in it. When I
double click to open (in datasheet view--I can open it in design view) the
error says "The Databse engine could not lock table "table name" because it
is already in use by another person or process." I know that no one is in the
database b/c it is a copy of the database on my desktop. Also, I get this
same error when I'm in the original database. No one else is experiencing
this issue though, except me.

The second table contains simple text, number and yes/no fields. I've been
in this table many times. When I double click to open it the error message
says "The table "table name" is already opened exclusively by another user,
or it is already open thorugh the user interface and cannot be manipulated
programmatically." I am not able to open this table in design view--I get an
error saying that I may not have permission or it may be open already--would
I like to open it as read-only. Once again, other people can get into this
table, it's just me that is having the issue.

I was recently in a totally different database playing with the security
setting (tools ->security) in Access. I didn't save anything though (not to
my knowledge) and I didn't think it would affect any of my other databases.
Not sure if it is even related.

Has anyone ever seen this and/or do you know how to fix it? I'd appreciate
your help!

Becky
