Error ! Not a valid embedded object.......{Not a Norton Issue}

Not a Norton Issue.

When attempting to insert WMF clipart, or equation editor, I get the
following error.

Error ! Not a valid embedded object

I am experiencing the same issue as described throughout the thread by
claeschrister on 9/23/04. Except, I am dealing with several hundred PCs,
running either Windows XP or Windows 2000, on a 2003 domain. Plus, none of my
computers have Symantec Antivirus. We do run McAfee.

One thing is certain, accounts that are local admins work just fine. Log in
as an individual who is not in the local administrators group, and the error
occurs.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?VGVycnk=?=,

Then I'd say you're looking at a permissions issue. Best place to get a followup
on this would probably be the word.setup.networking group, with a cross-post to
office.setup

I was having the same problem on a computer that I just replaced. I figured
a new install would fix the problem. I copy most of the user profile across
when I setup a new computer. I include the Cookies, Desktop, Favorites,
Recent, and the My Documents folders, and the NTUSER.DAT and NTUSER.dat.log
files.

When the user logged into the new computer, he still had the same problem.
I tried giving his account local administrative access, logged him out and
back in, but the clipart in the document was still displaying with the red X.
He was also still getting the, "Error! Not a valid embedded object," error
message. I took him back out of the local administrative account, logged him
out, and logged in with my administrative account, which viewed the document
correctly. I inserted a new clipart and saved the document. I then logged
out of the administrator account and had the user log back in. He was then
able to view the document with the clipart displaying correctly. He was also
able to insert clipart without the error message.

I'm not sure if that will fix it for you, but it might be worth a try.
