Error! Not a valid embedded object

Inserting an object into a Word Doc gives the above error message. What can I
do to solve this.

What object are you trying to insert and what version of Word are you
trying to insert it in?

You are not alone. When I print I can see the pictures, but on the screen I
have a red x. If it is a Visio document, a double click will bring open Visio
embedded in the word document. If it is not a Visio document, then I get
properties. By the way, if I paste the picture from Visio, I get the Error !
Not a valid embedded object.

The images are nothing special. Even my old documents are no longer usable.
