Error on Closing Word

Using Word 2000 on XP 64, get the following error everything time I close Word:
Faulting application winword.exe, version 0.0.0.2717, module winword.exe,
fault address 0x0016f0ba.

The event id is 1000.

Everyone seems to have problems with this event ID, but I can't find the
fault address in any other post.

I've already tried deleting normal.dot, but that didn't help.

Thanks,

Using an HP printer as the system default? If so, try using a different
default printer to see if it is the HP driver bug.

No. The default is a Sharp printer, although there are drivers for an HP
plotter installed.

Test to see if Word closes without error from Safe Mode. From Start | Run,
type in

winword /a

and press Enter. Word is in Safe Mode. Open a document, then close it and
Word. Does it still error?

That suggests the most likely cause is an add-in or incompatible macro
causing the problem. It may still be the Sharp printer driver, so try
testing with a different printer driver set as the system default. Disable
all macros and addins: if that stops the problem, then add them back one at
a time until the problem recurs. With Word 2000, there are a fair number of
Microsoft addins (such as the Windows Live addin) that are incompatible.

That's a symptom of a Word Data Key corruption - usually because Word has
been running when updates are installed.

Run Regedit and expand by double-clicking to the key below. With DATA
selected, press DELETE. Word will automatically recreate a new key when it
is restarted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Symptoms of Data Key corruption include:

• The mouse does not work when you use Word.
• You cannot open a Word document from the Search window in Windows
Vista.
• You cannot open a Word document from Windows Desktop Search.
• Word crashes when you try to start or exit Word.
• Word crashes when you open the Open dialog box.
• Word crashes when you save a document.
• Word crashes when you close a document.

If you feel uncomfortable editing the registry yourself, Microsoft have a
fix that will do this for you.

If it is OK in safe Mode, then it has to be an add-in. If you have installed
the WLM Office add-in, remove that first as it is known to be a problem.
Otherwise, remove any other add-ins - usually in the Word Start-up folder
though sometimes in the Office Start-up folder.

thank you terry....all folders were empty...however a few days ago i solved
the problem by deleting all NORMAL.DOT files...it seemed one was very large
in mb. i kept getting to save this file so i made or added numbers to it. so
by deleting the orginal it cleared up the problem...again, i thank you for
your kind consideration, af/alan
