error on saving in excel 07

i have a particular excel file which opens once in excel 07 and when i save
it in excel 07 and then reopen it , there is an error. 'unable to read file'
error message is displayed. then excel asks do you trust the workbook .. on
pressing yes some data is recovered and all formats and some data is lost.
the error log file is below : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"
standalone="yes" ?>
- <recoveryLog
xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
<logFileName>error047800_01.xml</logFileName>
<summary>Errors were detected in file 'F:\current
sheets\jhul\jjuly98.xls'</summary>
- <additionalInfo>
<info>Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may
have been lost.</info>
</additionalInfo>
</recoveryLog>

now when i save this file in xlsx format then there is no problem and each
time it opens correctly. also, when i save it to off 97 -2003 format after
saving it first to off 07 format , there are no errors but saving it first
time to off 97-2003 format created the error. this is very surprising as all
other files are working properly.
can this be due to some formulas or logic requiring to be saved first in off
07 format and then they can be converted to off 03 format ??

i really want to know why this is happeneing ?
can anybody please help !!

You'd probably have more luck in a newsgroup for Windows XL (this one's
for MacXL, hence the ".mac." in the newsgroup name). Try

microsoft.public.excel.misc

However, the first thing I'd try is making sure your copy of XL07 is
fully updated.
