Error opening Word documents from a server

Has anyone seen the following error before .... I'm
tearing my hair out !

Win2K - Office 2K

<file_name> is being used by Factory Pre-Installation. Do
you want to make a copy ?

Factory Pre-Installation would be you. Presumably you haven't changed the
user name on the User Information tab of Tools | Options. See

How are you opening the documents? Are you using File/Open or
double-clicking them in an Exploring window?
