Help

Hi All,

I get a dialogbox when I try to open the project. It asks
me to rename the view, replace the view, Replace all the
items with duplicate names or cancel opening the project.

Can you please point me to the resolution. We are running
Project Server 2002 SP1.

Thanks.

You have accidentally polluted the Enterprise Global with a non-enterprise
View, namely the Resource Usage view. You have probably also polluted the
Enterprise Global with the non-enterprise Table included in this view, which
is the Usage table. You must eliminate any non-enterprise objects from the
Enterprise Global because it serves as your organization's "library" of only
enterprise objects, such as the Enterprise Gantt Chart and the Enterprise
Entry table. To eliminate non-enterprise objects, do the following:

1. Open the Enterprise Global file
2. Click Tools - Organizer
3. In the list on the right, select the Resource Usage view (and any other
non-enterprise Views) and click Delete
4. Select the Tables tab
5. From the list on the right, select any non-enterprise task Tables and
click Delete
6. Select the Resource option at the top of the dialog on the Tables page
7. Select the Usage table and (and any other non-enterprise resource
Tables) and click Delete
8. Click the Close button
9. Save and close the Enterprise Global file
10. Close and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

Hope this helps.

Help

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your suggestions. I tested them on our test
environment and it worked fine. The error did not appear.
I appreciate your help.

I revert back the state of view/table/forms etc (in
Organizer) to what it would show when you connect with "My
computer" offline for Enterprise global. I eliminated the
overlapping views/table/forms/ etc between global.mpt
(from My Computer) and enterprise global.

The lesson to be learnt from this is that you should not
modify your enterprise global views like Gantt
Chart/Resource Usage/Task Usage but create new ones that
are copies of these and rename them. If you modify these
then they get added automatically to enterprise global
list of views/table/forms etc.

Thanks,
I-Ali

Dale,

Is there anyway to get back the default tables. I have had the same issue
with the Gantt Chart view- in that i made a copy of the view, but used the
Entry table where I should have created a new one. When i changed the
columns in the copy view it changed the Entry table and now when anyone signs
on it is asking them to rename or replace the gantt chart view and the Entry
Table.

If i delete these (view and Table) will i get the default versions of them
back the next time i sign on or open enterprise global? If I just change the
columns in the Entry table back to the default columns will users still get
this prompt?

Thanks

Make a copy of the current Entry table and give the copy a unique name.
Make sure the new name for the Table is referenced in your custom View.
Then use the Organizer to delete the current Entry table only from the
Enterprise Global. Each user's Global.mpt file will contain the original,
unedited Entry table. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale.

I did this but when i did in the Enterprise global, the managers are getting
prompted when opening plans about the view that i am on when i close
enterprise global. For example i had the I had the network diagram open- i
deleted all other tables and views from the right, but you can't delete one
that you are looking at- is there anyway to have no view being shown so you
can delete all views. I guess it could be resolved by creating a new view
that no one has- but i don't have requirements for our next new view yet.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that you should select the Enterprise Gantt Chart view
with the Enterprise Entry table applied before you save and close the
Enterprise Global file. In fact, when I work with the Enterprise Global, I
never apply any other View or Table other than these two. Before saving and
closing the Enterprise Global, I always use the Organizer to make sure that
only enterprise Views and Tables are present in the file. Sorry for
forgetting to tell you one important piece of information.

Dale

The Enterprise Gannt Chart View no longer appears in the Organizer in
Enterprise Global cached or checked out- i deleted it when i was deleting all
the view in there. Is this something i should create again or that i
shouldn't have been able to delete?

Thanks,
Maria

I specfically stated that you should remove all non-enterprise objects. The
Enterprise Gantt Chart is obviously an enterprise object, isn't it?
Therefore, here's how to recreate it, along with the Enterprise Entry table
that you probably also deleted:

1. Open the Enterprise Global
2. Click View - Table - More Tables
3. Select the Entry table and click Copy
4. Name the new table Enterprise Entry and click OK
5. Click Close
6. Click View - More Views
7. Select the Gantt Chart view and click Copy
8. Name the new view Enterprise Gantt Chart
9. Select the Enterprise Entry table and click OK
10. Click Close
11. Click View - Enterprise Gantt Chart
12. Save and close the Enterprise Global

Hope this helps.
