Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi,

I am getting an error each time I open up any word documents that I have previously saved and closes word automatically. Also if I just open word up and try going to help it closes down word with an error.

Here is the error I get when opening up Word.

Have you tried repairing disk permissions & restarting your Mac?

If you have or if the problem continues after doing so it may very well be
one of the font issues prevalent in Snow Leopard. Come back for more info.

You haven't been playing with any Haxies such as "Monolingual" have you?

This kind of error often means there is a component missing or at the wrong
version.

Cheers

Yes I have tried to repair disk permissions and nothing changes.

What is "Haxies"? This is my wife's computer which she uses for her school work. She is a teacher and everything on her Mac is legit. The Microsoft Office was installed by me and have had no problems until this occurred. If I can't fix it by Friday by any help on here I will try and reinstalling the program.

Thanks for any input!

'Haxies' are utility-type apps which change how things normally are and/or
how they work. Ostensibly, their designers intend some type of improvement
or enhancement but the opposite is often the case.

Try a couple of diagnostic/troubleshooting steps;

1- Are you opening the files strictly from Words' File menu? What happens if
Word is not running & you double-click Word file icon? If Word is running?

2- Hold Shift while launching Word -- Any difference?

3- Log in as a different user -- Any difference?

Hi Kenny:

Check back with us BEFORE you attempt to re-install.

You have to follow a specific procedure, and use the Remove Office tool, or
you make the problem worse...

This is the procedure:

1) Track down all instances of pre-2008 Normal template on your computer,
and drag them to your desktop. The file is called simply "Normal" and has
no extension.

2) Run the Remove Office tool from
</Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office>

3) Find and delete the file Normal.dotm. Unless you have moved it, it
should be in
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/

4) If the following files exist, Remove or rename them:

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (10)

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Word Settings (11)

~/Library/Preferences/com.Microsoft.Word.plist

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008 (the whole folder!)

5) Ensure that your copy of OS X is right up-to-date with the latest patches
issued by Apple. Run Software Update until it finds nothing!

6) Now insert the CD and install Office 2008.

7) Then Repair Permissions with Disk Utility.

8) Now start Font Book and "Resolve Duplicates". Office installs some later
versions of fonts already in place: you must get the duplicates out, or Word
will crash.

9) Then re-install or reapply the 12.2.0 and 12.2.3 and 12.2.4 updates, in
that order.

10) Repair permissions again.

11) Now shut down, wait for the power to go off, then re-start. This fires
the Unix clean-up scripts.

Cheers
