Error upon opening outlook

This is the message I receive everytime I open Outlook lately. It says this
in a balloon on the bottom right tray where the icon is....

A data file did not close properly the last time it was being used and is
being checked for problems. Performance might be affected while the check is
in progress.

Why is this happening. I have deleted every single email I could find.
Please help. Thanks

Something is keeping Outlook open improperly when you close it. See if this
