error using automatic phone dialer

When I try to have Outlook dial a phone number to an Outlook Contact, I get
this message: "An internal error occurred in the automatic phone dialer.
Close the dial phone dialogue box and try again." I have tried to look at
the "dialing options" and "line properties", but get the same error message
as I go through that.
