Error when Comparing Documents

i am using Word97 SR1. When i compared two 30 paged
documents using Compare Documents under Tools/Track
Changes, the program only marked changes on the first 7
pages. It failed to mark the changes later on in the
document. There are no fields in the document other than a
date and page number in the footer. One of the documents
has prior versions (under File/Versions). Any ideas as to
why this occurs and how to fix?

Microsoft recommends using third-party software to compare complex
documents. I'm not sure what it means by complex documents. Absent getting
another program, try saving one or both of the documents as a text file.
Then open one file in Word and use Word to compare with the other file. This
doesn't give you changes in formatting but does give you changes in text and
should work well with a document as small as you are talking about.
