Error: when de Entourage it's open

Recently i installed Entourage 2008 and translated the another machine
my identity by the process defined by this.

but when i opened the Entourage show me this error:

the preferences file could not opened.
quit and restart entourage. if this problem continues you might need
to verify and rebuild the entourage database.

I'm sorry, but you are not very clear so I might not be getting all the info
I need to help.

After installing Office 2008, did you upgrade to 12.1.5?
What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)
How did you import your old data and what were you using prior to installing
Office 2008?
What size is your database file? How much free space on your hd?
Do you have Leopard or Tiger installed? What version?

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.
