Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I installed office 2008 and am getting error messages when I try to import my identity. I get two errors:

Import from Entourage X could not be completed because an error (-40) occurred.

Import from Entourage X could not be completed because an error (2) occurred.

I can't find any information on what these error codes mean. Any idea on how to resolve this?

Also, I can get it to import my email addresses from a txt file (but only the addresses, not mail, calendar, etc.) but I lose all of my group lists. I have about 2800 contacts and really need those lists! Please help!

I installed office 2008 and am getting error messages when I try to import my
identity. I get two errors:

First, is the Identity you are trying to import on the same drive/partition?
If not, move it to this drive.
Import from Entourage X could not be completed because an error (-40)
occurred.

Error -40 is a positioning error (tried to position before start of file).
This might indicate file system corruption. Try running Apple's Disk
Utility: First Aid and repairing the disk till it shows clean.
Import from Entourage X could not be completed because an error (2) occurred.

This is an address error. Some piece of information was written to the wrong
place in memory. Attempting to access data larger than a byte on an odd
address (68000 processor) or an instruction at an odd address.
I can't find any information on what these error codes mean. Any idea on how
to resolve this?

Instead of importing the data, you can export as individual items in
Entourage X and import the data into Entourage 2008.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

Also, I can get it to import my email addresses from a txt file (but only the
addresses, not mail, calendar, etc.) but I lose all of my group lists. I have
about 2800 contacts and really need those lists! Please help!

The link above will give you the info to do this, but you do need to verify
your drive using Disk Utility "Repair Disk". You will need to boot from your
install CD or another boot volume to run "Repair Disk".

If you are unable to do this yourself, I do work with clients to recover
data. You can contact me off list.

The identity is on the same drive and as far as I know the same partition, I don't mess with partitions.

I tried the Disk Utility and chose Verify Disk because Repair Disk was not available. After checking several items I got the following message:

Checking volume information
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 829261 instead of 829267)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 187171 instead of 187165)
This volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.

Does this make any sense?

I have managed to bring in all of my mail messages by dragging the folders to the desktop creating an mbox file and then dragging them to 2008.

However, I am still struggling with the email addresses. When I export them it says "exporting 2880 contacts" but when it imports in 2008 it is only importing 2319 - so I am losing about 550 contacts. Could those that are being dropped be bad some how?

I tried dragging them individually to the desktop and then into 2008 and after about 135 contacts I get a "mail error" message from entourage x and it won't let me drag any more over. And each contact goes blank as I try to click on it, although it is still there.

How do I get it to boot from the Apple install CD?

That's possible.

Insert the CD and select restart. Hold down the C key to boot from the CD.
