Error when saving projects

P

Peter M.

Hi folks,

again, we do have major problems with our Project Server 2007 installaton.
We haven't finally implemented it yet, but people are starting to put their
project on the server, managing their teams' absences and so on.
Now, it frequently happens that we get an error upon saving a project to the
server. This can well be a project that existed before and has only been
updated. So it's not just with new projects.
The error is the typical

<<Microsoft Office Project has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.>> - thing.

I don't really know what's important from the error report, but it does show

Exception information:
Code 0xc0000006

However, I do believe, the code is not always the same.

When does the error occur?
It mainly occurs when several projects are saved and closed (by clicking on
the X and confirming the "Save and check in" dialog) without restarting
Project Professional in between.
It rarely to never happens on the first project saved and closed.

Now that was annoying. However, it got worse when we realized that some
project files were severly damaged after these crashes.

Has anyone an idea? What's the latest hotfix/update we should've installed?
Although I doubt updating would change a thing now.

Any help is much appreciated.

Peter:

Teach your users to never, ever, under any circumstances, us the little
x-button to close projects. Teach them to always use File > Save, File >
Close one project at a time. Make sure that they watch the status bar at the
bottom to make sure that all project save jobs are complete before trying to
close the application. A little best-practice and and a dash of patience
will eliminate the need for a "hotfix" that is certain never to arrive.

A shame when you are inclined to think that all it would take was for MS to
make a hotfix which basically disables the "x" button ;-) (if they were kind
they would even include a mouse over text telling people to use the File,
Save and File,Close options).

Jokes aside, Gary is most likely right that it is not likely that MS will
fix this bug as long as there is a workaround.

thanks gary,

I will go try this.

I've actually had someone tell me he'd always done it that way, but I'll
give it a try too.
