error with new blank document

Each time I open a new blank document, the corsor is at the bottom of the page and as I type the text fill up from the bottom of the page upward. Moreover the document is setted with 2 columns. Please show my how I can correct to open a simple blank page with the cursor at the top.

Change the vertical alignment from Bottom to Top on the Layout tab of Page
Setup. Then press the Default... button. For the rest, see
