errors archiving in outlook 2002, is it folder size?

Hi folks
I am having trouble archiving some folders at present and
I am wondering has outlook a problem archiving folders
that are too large. The total MS Exchange folder is 35
GBs, I am wondering how it can be that big because our
largest mail folders are 230MBs and most folders are less
than 10MBs and there is only about 50 altogether so even
50x100 would only be 10GBs.

Anyway, we need to archive emails to get this down so that
it can be handled easier by our incremental backup
solution. It worked ok for some folders on the first
archive that we did but we got errors for others. I
wonder is it because the *.pst file is now too big at
1.3GBs or that it has difficulty archiving individual
folders that are greater than 30 or 40MBs, some are up to
230MBs.

be accessed.

Error while archiving folder "Fedex" in store "Mailbox -
Oliver Dempsey". Problems with the destination store
F:\BV003\archive.pst. Cannot read Outlook-specific
information from the store. An error occurred that
prevented the file F:\BV003\archive.pst from being saved.
Close and then restart all mail-enabled applications.

store "Mailbox - Oliver Dempsey". Problems with the
destination store F:\BV003\archive.pst. Cannot read

My money is on the 1.3GB size of the .PST you're trying to archive to.
The absolute upper limit for a .PST is 2GB and once you hit the 1GB mark
you're likely to start running into trouble. You'll need to start a new
archive.pst (rename the old one and move it somewhere else), and you
might want to split up the old archive.pst as well so you don't run into
any further problems accessing the data in it.

Hi Jocelyn,

Thanks for the advice, i was thinking along those lines
for a work around solution aswell. I will try it out and
let you know how i get on. Thanks again.
