Errors printing text in grayscale...

M

Michael Gould

I am using patched versions of WinXP and Publisher 2003, printing on an HP
LaserJet 1100.

I want to set some of the text to a gray color, but in the print preview and
the print, the text is black. I was using the MS version of the laserjet
driver that came with XP. So I wiped the driver and downloaded the drivers
from HP - dated 2002. The text comes through how I want it, but if I have
too many pictures (the filesize at the time was 1MB) the pictures are poorly
rendered (striped) - due to memory errors with the driver? The pics came
through ok, however, with the MS driver.

So:

MS driver - good pics, black text when I want gray.
HP driver - bad pics, gray text when I want it.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Mike

Sorry, bad wording on my part...

There is no error message in either scenario. With the HP LaserJet 1100
(MS) driver, the text (graphics are OK) always comes out black, regardless
of the color I set it to.

With the downloaded HP drivers, gray text comes out gray as I want, but
there are lines and striping in the .png images I embed in the document.

I'd prefer not to use jpegs. I could re-cut the graphics as TIFFs if its an
issue with formats....

Thanks!

OK, my bad again...I had to do more KB (218696) digging....

The MS drivers do not support grayscale text as part of the pcl driver
(funny, thought I got gray text in word...). I have to convert text into
word art to get the colors I want.

<feh>

I need to bug HP about their own drivers, since they do print gray text, but
shred my graphics.

Thanks for your time.

Do not bother contacting the LEMON brand printer company.

HP have your money and could not care a damn about your problems.

This has been an HP issue for must be 6 years, so why would you think the
LEMON brand printer company HP would do anything about it now. If you buy
junk like HP you get all the problems and issues you pay for. Next time be
a smart little brownie and buy a quality brand of printer.
