Estimated work vs actual

I want a task with a work column that has an 40 hrs (my estimate). I want to
update the actual work to be 30 hours. I want the % work complete to be 100%
and see the variance of 10 hours. In either case, the duration should remain
20 days.

In other words - I estimated 40 hours of work but was 100% complete with
only 30 hours of actual work but still took the whole 20 days.

Is this possible and how would I set it up?

Thank you.

Ensure that the task is a Fixed duration Task. This is set on the Advanced
Tab of the Task Information dialog. Then insert the Actual Work and
Remaining Work fields. Enter 30 for Actual Work and then 0 for Remaining
Work.

Remember to set the baseline first as well. That will calculate your 10h
variance after you enter actual work.
