EULA loop in web access

M

mr.lahey

Hi,

I just installed SP2 on our Project Server 2003. This seemed to work ok and
everyone that uses web access has been prompted to download some new active X
controls.

One user though is having a problem referred to in kb article 837655 where
you can't get past the EULA.

We've tried the fixes suggested in the article but that doesn't resolve the
problem. So can anyone offer any other advice?

Looking at the ASP page which checks the prerequisites I think it is
comparing the versions of something on the client and the server but I'm not
savvy enough to figure out what files it refers to. Does anyone know what
these are?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
I'm having the same problem, have you had any success yet or are you still
waiting for someone to come back to you ?

I'm having the same problem with a machine that I have administrative rights
to. I am stuck in the EULA loop and never even get the Active X Control
error at the top so I can right click it and install it. I've cleared all
the caches, set the security to non-existent and still can't get out of this
loop. Any help?

Thanks.

Hi all. I've had similar reports by some users of our Project Server
2003. We use Windows Authentication. The problem stems from users
attempting to log on to the server the first time using a userid that
is not granted Administrator rights on the machine that they are using.
After granting Administrative authority for their workstation to their
userid, the download of PWA client worked. Apparently in order to get
beyond the EULA, and to download and install the client, your userid
must have admin rights. The only other possible explanation I can think
of would be if the site needs to be added as a trusted site. If that is
the case, (assuming Internet Explorer), select the tools, internet
options, security, trusted sites, then have the user add the site added
as a trusted site.

S

Steve Lundwall

John,

Thanks. But as I said, I do have administrative rights and it is added as a
trusted site. Still no luck. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Steve,
I think what he's saying is the USER ID needs to have administrator rights
to the SERVER that MSP Server is sat on as well as the local machine.

D

dave

ah, apparently not then.

On another thread I read that it may be possible to sownload the client
stuff from a MS site rather than from the server ?

Anybody any ideas of location ?

Here is the Microsoft knowledge base article number on how to manually
download the client components and install them
Article ID : 818046
Last Review : November 18, 2004
Revision : 4.1

To clarify my earlier response. You must have administrative rights on
the local machine (not the Project Server), in order to download and
install the PWA client on the machine (at least that has been my
experience).

S

Steve Lundwall

Dave,

I have Admin rights to the Windows Server 2003 box that Project Server is
on, Project Server itself, SQL Server connected to Project Server and just
about everything else. Still no luck. On that machine I can't seem to force
the Active X Control message to come up and I get stuck in the EULA loop.

I have disabled all PJ* AddOns in IE, set the site to Trusted and everything
else I can think of. Anyone else got any ideas? I am open to anything.
Thanks.

Jon,

Thanks for that but it is yet another dead end road. (I do have full
administrative rights to everything.) The problem is that I can't seem to
Extract to the Downloaded Program Files area as stated in the following
instructions:

10. Expand My Computer, expand Local Disk (C:), expand Windows, and
then click Downloaded Program Files.
11. Click Extract.

Nothing shows up in that sub-directory. I can extract to anywhere else and
did (to C:\temp). But, when I follow step 15:

15. Type regsvr32 pj11enuc.dll , and then press ENTER.

I get an error. "DllRegisterServer in pj11enuc.dll failed. Return code was:
0x80004005"

When I do step 16:

16. Type regsvr32 pjres11c.dll, and then press ENTER.

I get the following error: "LoadLibrary("pjres11.dll") failed - The
specified module could not be found."

So, the manual load of the Active X controls does not work.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

Did you delete the pj* stuff here? I'm not sure what "disabled" means.

Steve, are you running XP on your machine - I just tried it on another
Win2000 desktop and the thing went off no problem.

It is obviously 'something' to do with the user machine.

I'm going to 'copy' the files from the server rather than do the extract and
see if that fares any better, failing that it may be a OS restore [ which I'm
not looking forward too ] - surely we can't be the only people that have this
problem ???

Yup, fully deleted.

This is an XP Machine fully updated to SP2. I actually didn't just 'disable'
the PJ* stuff I disabled them AND I deleted them using IE>Tools>Internet
Options>General Tab>Settings>View Objects and deleted them there. The manual
install from Microsoft doesn't work (See my previous message about the
various problems you run into trying to follow their instructions. That was
a waste of time.)

So, I'm stumped. But it does seem as if we have the only two machine in
existence that have this behavior as we are the only ones battling this
problem. I'm still researching and working on it. Thanks.

Steve, I presume that if the manual load doesn't work, then there must be
some registry files that are not allowing the download.

The machine you are having a problem with, has it had PWA installed before ?

Steve,
I just did a extract of the files into a .rar file [ bit like winzip], then
put them onto the local disc.
I did the extract from there to the Downloaded Program Files and then went
through the manual process as described.

It all went smoothly !

Steve, after step 11, you state that nothing shows up in the
sub-directory. Sounds to me as if the the Windows folder options are
set to not display system files, or not to display hidden files. If you
want to pursue installing the client manually, I suggest checking what
the Windows Explorer options are set to on the machine, and I would
also recommend checking the properites for the sub-directory that you
are attempting to update. The userid that you use to log on to the
machine must have the necessary permissions to update the folder.

S

Steve Lundwall

John,

Nice catch but that isn't the issue. The folder options were set to show
everything including system files and all extensions.
