European License Q

Do Microsoft Office 2003 products sold in Great Britain have different
licenses than products sold in the US?
If one were to buy a retail product from a British on-line vendor would
there be any issues using that software in the USofA?

Microsoft licensing terms and conditions vary from locale to locale.
If you live in the U.S., you should only purchase and install software
marketed and sold for distribution in the U.S. Otherwise, you may jepordize
your Microsoft support options.

Buy it in the US, when they convert Dollars to Pounds the rate is usualy 1:1
the after sales support in the UK is also a complete Joke.

Microsoft support!?! HaHaHa. Very funny.
I wouldn't want to jeopardize my ability to wait on hold for 3 hours only to
be told to reinstall the program. (Just kidding - sort of).

Isn't this group tech support??? (Just kidding again, sort of, again).

So if I'm going to be a big boy and strike out into the wilderness on my own
then there would be no other down-side?
The main question is: is it allowed? Is it legal?
And how do I make my voice do this?

Just trying to say that you should only purchase software in your localized
edition.

As you may have seen from other posts, US options (usually North America) do
not always apply to other localities where the local Microsoft subsidiary is
free to use their own licensing, distribution, etc. practices.

After furious head scratching, BP asked:

| Please explain cryptic "dollars to pounds" comment. Not smart enough
| to pick up on the sarcasm.
| The current exchange rate is $1.79 US.
|
| So Microsoft does not support it's products sold in the UK? Is that
| what you are trying to tell me? Or are you trying to say that my long
| distance bills would crush me?

I have been looking at Office 2003 products on Ebay for a while now. It is
now a cultural curiosity for me. While (obviously) I am not interested in
buying anything questionable from Ebay members (or I would have done so long
ago), I am constantly amazed at the volume of used, OEM, academic, and UK
versions up for sale. I wonder how many people buy this stuff without
checking first and end up getting snookered. I want to be knowledgeable
about these items, thus all the questions. Maybe I can pass some info or
warnings along.

I'm just looking for some straight answers here. As we have touched on
before, getting them is like pulling teeth sometimes.

The "straight answer" is to purchase a retail, boxed copy of Microsoft Office
from a local, reputable store that sells computer software.

Well, one might consider that the party line.

I built my computer from parts, so that would technically make me an OEM and
allow me to legally install and use OEM software, wouldn't it?
That is why the standard, stock answers are sometimes inappropriate and
unhelpful. Every user environment is unique.

Do you know what the specific differences are between the US and UK EULAs?

No, you'll have to contact Microsoft directly and ask them.
