Even vertical spacing between stories

John

Hi

I've got an A4 news sheet that's divided into three columns, with the text
flowing from 1 to 2 and then to 3. There are a series of short stories with
a headline and I'd like the first story of column 2 to start at the top of
the column. This means that at the moment, I'm putting in extra lines (or
taking out) between the stories in column 1. The result is that the gap
between the stories isn't even and looks bad.

Is there a way to "justify vertically" between the stories?

Thanks

John

From Publisher's help

Insert a column break
You can insert a column break anywhere in a text box. If the text box contains more
than one column, the text that follows the column break will start in the next
column. If you are in the last column of a text box (or the text box contains only
one column) and it is part of a story (story: Text that's contained within a single
text box or a chain of linked text boxes.), the text will start in the next connected
text box.
Click where you want to insert the column break.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Note To remove a column break, place the insertion point just to the left of the
first character in the text that was moved, and then press BACKSPACE.

Thanks for this Mary. How would you then ensure that:

The top stroy aligned with the top of the textbox,

The bottom story aligned with the bottom of the textbox and

The inbetween stories were distributed evenly?

Thanks

John

the bottom of the bottom story was at the bottom of the text box

You could try adjusting the paragraph spacing. There isn't a way to justify
vertically, it maybe better to create text boxes and link, there are workarounds that
will achieve your look. If you don't use columns you can auto-fit.

Thanks Mary.

Following from what you were saying, I guess you could put each story in its
own textbox and then vertically distribute a selection of textboxes.

Do you know how I could set the textbox height to the size of the text using
VBA?

Thanks again

John
