Event logs keep getting requests for favicon.ico

I don't have a favicon.ico file in my web, but my event logs keep
showing a lot of requests for this file, and its generating 404 errors.
How can I get sites to stop asking for this file, or is the best bet to
create the favicon.ico file?

I'd rather not have to create one for each site I host, is there some
way to get a generai ICO file?

Just create one.
It's a result of people adding the site to their Favorites list.

Some info; www.favicon.com

Oh, believe me I'm not complaining about people
bookmarking the site, was just tired of that error
appearing the event log every day!! :)

I just had to reply! I just tested this site and didn't know what to use for a graphic, so I used a photo of myself. What a riot... a mini-me.

I do have a question about favicons. Why do they seem to disappear over time? I don't mean from the Web directory... I mean from the favorites list or from my desktop shortcuts?

The disappear any time you clear your browser's cache.

Adela -

I think I remember reading here that they disappear when your disk cache is cleared.
