every time I save the ppt the file is larger

I'm working with PowerPoint 2003 on Vista Home Premium. The original ppt is
252M with audio. i want a smaller version, so I've copied the file and
deleted the audio from the copy. Now it is 251M. It should be about 1M.

I've created a blank ppt and copied one slide at a time into it. The size
was very small until I reached slide 8. The size jumped 1M, so I deleted the
pic from that slide and the size went down slightly. I deleted the slide and
the size went down slightly. Repeating this, I got down to only 1 slide (56k)
and each time I save it, the file gets larger. I haven't changed or done
anything, just hit Save again.

The reason I want the file smaller is that Send to: MSWord works better with
smaller size ppt files.

The first thing you need to do is check to see if Allow Fast Saves is turned
on. Click Tools, Options, Save and make sure it is turned off.

Glad it worked and you posted back. What the Fast Saves does is simply
tacks on any change information to the end of the original file so if you
add an image and then save, the image is placed in the file. When you
delete the image the image remains in the file but later it is deleted from
the screen. All previous changes are still within the file. When Fast save
is turned off, basically an image is taken of the current set of slides as
you see them so the size is smaller.
