Hi,
Can i know what is exactly the role of resource manager keeping in mind the
default permissions given by project server.

Say i am a project manager and i have created a project. Now I want the
resource manager to build team and assign resources for this project then
what is the exact set of permissions my resource manager should have.He will
assign these resources based on the RBS and their availability.
I have around 6 resource managers for each of my depts. What is the best
practice that i should follow

Thanks,

Manmeet:

You have opened one of Pandora's little treasure troves in Microsoft's EPM.
Everywhere you look, the mystery of the resource manager's role plagues
implementations worldwide. Essentially, this is anything you want or desire
it to be. There aren't many hard and fast models for this. One good thing is
if you can get the people called resource managers to manage resource data
in the system, including resource calendars.

To add my tuppence worth to Gary's.

Resource Managers can be at any level that you like. I have clients that use
their team leaders to manage their resources, clients that have specific
resource manager roles, clients with no resource managers, but that use the
system administrators in their PMO as the people that are responsible for
resource information/allocation/tracking.

Role wise in my eyes, the following are some of the resource managment
activities in the system:
- Maintainance of Resource Pool
- Resource reporting (forward planning, over-allocation, non compliance
with timesheets etc)
- Allocation of resources to project teams

Each of these can fall to a different individual or to a single person,
depending on the complexity/maturity of the organisational processes. How
you cut it is up to you. My gut feel is that there is no simple answer to
your question, simply because the system is designed to allow a single user
to fulfill multiple roles, or portions of multiple roles and as such, the
definition of what a resource manager should do is hazy.

Hope this helps
