Exceeded Number of Installations??

I installed Mac Office X onto my macbook a couple months ago, and
recently it has been periodically been quitting and giving me the
error message "This installation of Microsoft Office X exceeds the
number of installations permitted by the license agreement." Am I
correct in the fact that we are permitted to have one back-up
installation? Anyone have this problem or know how to resolve it?
Thank you.

Most licenses allow you to install Office on one machine, and to also
install it on a laptop for your exclusive use.

That means you can only run it on one machine at a time. You'll get the
above error message if you start an Office app when that license is
being used by another machine on the same network.

To resolve it, shut down all Office apps on the first machine before you
start an Office app on the second.
