Excel 08 divides numbers by 100

I have been a longtime PC excel user and have recently switched to MAC. For some reason, although I've formatted cells as numbers, every time I enter a number in a cell, it is automatically divided by 100. The only way around this is to put an = sign in front of the number.

Head into Excel> Preferences> Edit & clear the check on "Display this number
of decimal places".
