Excel 2000 crashes when overwriting shared files.

I have run into a rather odd problem and am hoping a few of you may
have some insight on this odd problem.

I have a user running winxp, office 2000 in a networked environment who
is having trouble overwriting files on shared volumes. She can do
anything she wants on her machine no problem. She can also create new
files on the shared drive, and open exsisting files on the shared
drive.

The problem comes in when she makes changes to a document on the shared
drive and then trys to save it.
Excel locks up so bad that task manager can't pull the machine out of
its horrific nosedive and a reboot is required.

She has all the appropriate permissions on the shared drive. she can
move files to and from it and when she does the same thing in word it
works flawlessly.

I've uninstalled office, removed the registry entries and reinstalled
it to no avail.

It persists even when she is the only one in the office accessing the
file.

If she saves her changes to the desktop then copy's and pastes them
into the shared drive it overwrites it perfectly.

Excel is the problem but not sure what more i can do.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
