Excel 2000 large files losing formulars...

Ok, this is a serious issue. In our accounting department we're using Excel
2000, but on some files (25k -63k) from time to time it would lose the
formulas or we'd get an error when we try to save, "not enough memory"

We're on Win2K, 1GB memory. But, does anyone know how to correct this?

....well, I've just confirmed with the user, the formulas are there, they
just don't work anymore, and they can't add new ones either.
Funny thing is, it's not consistent, we've tested other Excel files, and
they seem fine. Now, if they reboot, it MAY work, but in most cases it's a
few days before they miraculously start working again...

All the latest service packs/updates for Office 2000 are loaded too...

<don't work anymore>

Tools>Options>Calculation, check Automatic

<they can't add new ones >

What do you mean they can't? What happens if they try? Don't they calculate?
Is there an error message? Unexpected results? Typing but not seeing
anything?

Niek,

Thanks for the info, I will check this setting. In addition, I will verify
your info below...

Hi Ivan,

Be aware that this setting can change unexpectedly. It is an Excel wide
setting, valid for all open workbooks.
The setting of the first opened workbook governs that session, until it is
changed manually.

Yes, ‘automatic’ is selected.

When the formula ‘bug’ is happening, the actual typed formulas show in the
cells. It’s like the equal sign does not translate into a formula. Sometimes
I am not able to key in a ‘+’ sign and a cell address and get any results...

Your cells are formatted as text before you entered the formula. Formatting
now doesn't help. Format as general AND re-enter the formula.
For just one formula: F2, ENTER.
For many formulas: Find and replace all "=" with"=", which is essentially
the same as re-entering the formulas.

....again, thanks for the info. We're going to upgrade one user to Office
2003. Hopefully this will help stop/slow down some of these funny issues...
