Excel 2000-Rows Do Not Sort Ascending

I am using Excel 2000. In Excel 97, 2002, and 2003, if
you click on only one CELL, you can sort that column in
ascending order. But in Excel 2000, you have to select
the entire worksheet in order to sort ascending. Is there
a Microsoft service pack available to correct this problem
in Excel 2000? Any other advice you may have? Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry, but I have never heard either scenario you mention:
I think you have to select at least two cells to do a
sort (One doesn't make any sense), and you certainly
don't have to select the entire
worksheet to do a sort in any version of Excel I've
worked with. Does this happen just on your pc? or others
running 2000? have you upgraded recently? Does it happen
on every workbook you try or only on certain ones? Does
your PC demonstrate any other strange occurrences?

I agree with what Jeff said, I too have never seen exactly what you describe
and don't believe there is such a "bug" in O2K. Something you might
consider. When you select one cell and select any sort function, Excel
assumes you want to sort the "Current Region", which is an Excel specific
term describing a range derived at the time you initiate the sort. It
basically denotes on area based on the selected cell, emanating out until it
encounters blank cells in X direction. If you have blank cells anywhere in
your desired sort range, that can give strange sort results when you select
only one cell. Generally, the biggest area of concern is to make sure you
have no blank column headings and contiguous data in the column where you
have selected the cell. Hope this helps...
